What is the EN 1647+A1 standard and why is it important for mobile homes?

SUPER ARKTIK ® mobile homes are manufactured in accordance with the pan-European technical standard EN 1647+A1 for leisure accommodation vehicles. This standard was approved by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and is valid for all EU member states, as well as Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The EN 1647+A1 standard is specific to leisure accommodation vehicles, including mobile homes. It focuses on requirements related to health, safety, and habitability in mobile homes. In Slovakia, this European standard has been adopted as STN EN 1647+A1, meaning that mobile homes manufactured in accordance with this standard meet all national and European requirements. Members of CEN are required to comply with CEN internal regulations and grant the European standard EN 1647+A1 the status of a national standard without any modifications.

What does the EN 1647+A1 standard cover?

The parameters of the EN 1647+A1 standard concerning various aspects of leisure accommodation vehicles must be met by the following three products:

• Mobile homes (including SUPER ARKTIK® mobile homes)

• Motor caravans

• Caravans

This standard applies to all facilities defined as leisure vehicles, even if they are connected to utility networks or placed on concrete blocks. Even if a mobile home is connected to water and electrical systems, it is generally still considered a leisure accommodation vehicle, which typically does not require a building permit.

Why do SUPER ARKTIK® mobile homes usually not require a building permit?

Thanks to European standards such as EN 1647+A1 and the specific legal status of leisure accommodation vehicles, SUPER ARKTIK ® mobile homes are generally not considered buildings subject to construction law. Even when placed on land, connected to utility networks, or installed on concrete blocks, they are still regarded as leisure vehicles. If a customer requires a registration number, project documentation is prepared in accordance with the valid zoning plan of the location, and the placement is decided by the competent building authority.
